Running shoes & marathon training schedule
I went shoe shopping for running shoes today! If you know me you know that I am a shoe addict. Seriously, one year my roommates in college all chipped in to buy me 2 over the door closet organizers to go with the 1 I already had because shoe storage was becoming an issue. While I don't have as many shoes as I used to I spend a fair amount of time sending links to Jaime from DSW. Anyway, today I went to Pacers in Silver Spring so that the running shoe experts could help me find the perfect shoe for my marathon training. I was so excited to finally go because when I add mileage my right knee protests (painfully!) and I was sure it was because I wasn't buying the right kind of shoe. It turns out I was right. I've always bought running shoes at DSW or it's equivalent not thinking that it mattered. It matters!

Bingham Pot Roast
Pot Roast = Comfort food! I didn't make my own pot roast until about 5 years ago when we lived in Leesburg. Jamie and I had just moved to Virginia and we didn't really know anyone in the area when we met the most awesome super couple in the whole world: Jon and Megan. We hit it off instantly and started a tradition of Thursday night dinners and The Office (back when it was still good).

Marathon Here I Come!!!
I am running a marathon! Can you believe that the girl that brought you bacon cupcakes is running a marathon? Yeah, me either. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to blog about the marathon, since this is a food blog after all, but then I remembered this photo that my friend Jaime posted on facebook a while back:
I really, really, really, really, like dessert. Like a lot. Dessert is the best thing ever and since I bake so much I have to spend some time running. It's fair.

B-B-B Bro Cakes. Beer, Bourbon and Bacon Cupcakes
Beer. Bourbon and Bacon. On a cupcake. Literally the perfect combination for a birthday celebration for the guy who loves all things bacon. If you don't know Brian (and some of you might not) he's a good friend that I met at Clemson when I was a groupie of the now defunded a cappella group called Impulse. I am not even going to lie I still am a huge fan of Brian and Impulse. Those boys had talent and swag before it was even cool to have swag.

Whole Wheat Rotini with Grilled Chicken, Zucchini and Pesto
I have been meaning to post this forever, but then we went five days without power in the worst god awful heat wave. FIVE days! We were miserable when we weren't hanging out at one of our gracious friend's houses. Thank goodness for good friends! Anyway, this is a dinner standby in our house that doesn't have an accurate name because when I make it we just call it "Pesto". I know pesto is just the sauce and there is a lot more involved than just the pesto, but Jamie and have our own little code. When we're texting about what to make for dinner there is no way that we're putting all of that in a message ;) We like this dish because it is a one bowl meal that freezes well. I really need to make a list of all the things that I freeze because it happens a lot-- I will get around to that later but I can't help but stress how nice it is to cook once and have several meals that you can cash in later stored in your freezer. It's how we made it through law school. No joke. However, when we lost power last week I was terrified! Our freezer was so full of muffins, pasta and chicken and dumplings. Thankfully we had "partial power" which literally meant that our refrigerator still worked so we could keep food cold but we couldn't cook it. We were grateful that we had that much because so many people had it worse.
