San Juan, PR Photos

Jamie & I took a quick trip to Puerto Rico after the half marathon and before Jamie started his new gig. It was unbelievably beautiful and relaxing. Here are some of the shots I took on our walking trip into San Juan. It is always fun to take photos of things that aren't food. In addition to beautiful architecture, San Juan has some fabulous food. Look out for restaurant reviews soon!

Dr. Pepper Crock Pot Ribs

This recipe is a long time coming. A year ago, Zeynep requested these ribs that she found on the Homesick Texan blog. It seemed like an amazing call- the only problem was that ribs were never on sale. Unemployment blows. Anyway, at the time I decided to try the sauce out on some chicken but it just didn't work. I was in the grocery store yesterday trying to find a pot roast, which obviously meant they were going to be expensive even though I now have a job, when I happened upon a sale on ribs!!!! $8 for a half rack later and I was pushing my buggy to the soda aisle to pick up a bottle of Dr. Pepper.

Nike Women's Half Marathon Race Recap

Expotique: B
Let me start this off by saying that I am not the world's biggest fan of race expos. You can never get through them quickly because there are too many people milling around browsing the hundreds of products available.

Drop The Mic Cupcakes

Lots of things have been happening in our life over the last 3 weeks, here's the recap:

  1. We went down to Charleston and had an amazing time seeing family.  I can't even begin to tell you how good it was to just be around people that you love.  We always come back so rejuvenated and ready to deal with the craziness that is DC.
  2. Much needed girls weekends in NJ and VA.  There is nothing like spending time as an adult with people you lived with when you were still trying to figure out who you are.  Love those girls :)
  3. My baby brother, traveled the whole world (it seemed) interviewing for jobs while simultaneously writing a million papers and finally defended his thesis. He graduates from Virginia Tech in May with his masters and I am quite certain there will be celebratory cupcakes.
  4. Jamie started playing in an 30+ baseball league.  I have never been more excited that Zeynep loves me enough to keep me entertained while that is happening.
  5. My computer started dying.  It is really sad, I love that thing, it was with me through the hell that was law school and the bar exam (twice) and now the motherboard is on it's last legs and will probably be headed to the Genius Bar in the Sky soon.
  6. Jamie Got A NEW JOB!

Hershey's Black Magic Cupcakes with Salted Cream Cheese Frosting

I've been trying to decide what to write about these cupcakes and outside of saying that they were pretty amazing, but other than that I got nothing.  So instead of some random story, I am going to do this post Ron Swanson Style: Here are some cupcakes, look at the pictures or don't.  I don't even care.  (okay I sort of really care)

Review: Spring Mill Bread Co.

Jamie and I have been talking about getting a dog for YEARS.  In a dream scenario we get a male beagle puppy and name him Truman after Jamie's favorite president. Roll your eyes if you must, but I figured that if I let him have naming rights to the pets that I could name the children.   The flaw in this little dream is that we live in a high rise apartment and both of us are gone during the day between 12-14 hours.  A beagle puppy wouldn't do well in that situation at all so we've begrudgingly started looking for other options.  Last weekend we were out in Eastern Market checking out the neighborhood when we spotted the absolute cutest English Bulldog enjoying a street performance of "Wonderwall'.  I decided immediately that I wanted an English Bulldog and that I would name him Seamus.
